WWI, WWII and Cold War installations along Alps borders.
Redoubts is something of a prequel to Frontière, Frontiera, Grenze. FFG considers the moveable borders Alps nations devised in response to permafrost melting and watershed drift. Redoubts shows how those same boundaries were militarized throughout the last century. Border fluidity has been a consistent theme. The mechanisms of change have shifted though; martial prowess has given way to bilateral agreements. In some regards this is utterly hopeful. In others it's bleak. At least in war possibilities exist for reprieves, treaties and the logic of cost-benefit analyses. Climate change, on the other hand, is inevitable and irrevocable. I see these projects as marking our shift from Cold War to global warming anxieties.
